Oneida Nation
The Oneida Indian tribe is a Native American tribe that traditionally lived in the area that is now central New York state. They were one of the five founding nations of the Iroquois Confederacy, also known as the Haudenosaunee.
The Oneida were known for their agricultural practices, as they grew crops such as corn, beans, and squash. They also hunted and fished for food. The Oneida were allies of the United States during the American Revolutionary War, but they were later forced to cede most of their land to the US government through treaties in the late 1700s and early 1800s.
The Oneida people were forcibly removed from their ancestral homeland and resettled in Wisconsin in the mid 1800s. Today, the Oneida Nation has a reservation in Wisconsin and also owns businesses, including a casino, to generate revenue for the tribe.
